TestimonyI have stored with AA Self Storage for many years and would recommend this facility to anyone in Boerne. If you drive down I-10 and see all of the storage facilities...keep driving...until you see this one!

Boerne History

Settlement of Boerne Texas
Boerne, Texas - A Historical Review
Boerne, Texas is located in Kendall County in what is referred to as the Texas Hill Country and is the site of the county seat. Boerne is located on the east side of Interstate 10, just over 20 miles northwest of San Antonio. The city got its name from a Jewish German named Ludwig B, know for his skills as an author and publicist. Boerne was founded in 1849 under the name Tusculum. The town name was changed to Boerne in 1852 at the same time that it was platted. As of 2010, the population is just over 10,000 people.
Boerne, Texas was originally a component of the Free Thinker Latin Settlements. It broke off from this establishment in 1848 during the Revolutions of the German states. The original citizens of Boerne were considered Forty-Eighters. These intelligent liberal abolitionists took pleasure in communicating in Latin about philosophy, science, music, and literature. They supported utopian philosophies that ensured basic human rights for everyone.
In 1849, a handful of Bettina's Free Thinker German colonists positioned themselves on the north bank of the Cibolo Creek, which is located one mile west of the current location of Boerne. They gave their new town the name of Tusculum after the home of Cicero located in ancient Rome. In 1852, Gustav and John James Theissen, who played a role in establishing Sisterdale, platted the townsite. Tusculum became Boerne as a tribute to Ludwig Börne. They chose to use the spelling Boerne, which is the Anglicized version. The community did not become incorporated until 1909.
Boerne has the second oldest limestone courthouse in Texas with a building date of 1870. It still stands right across the street from the current courthouse, which was built in 1998.
A group of retired army officers from the British army including Captain Egremont Shearburn and Glynn Turquand played one of the earliest polo matches in United States. They played this match in Boerne, Texas during the late 1870s. The polo ground can still be seen on Balcones Ranch today. In 1878, this property was purchased by Captain Turquand.
Boerne has a mix of historic past with quaint small town aesthetics. It is an appealing community for new city people who want a region with abundant natural beauty and a high value on open-space settings and quality of life. Thanks to an expansion of Interstate 10, Boerne is easily accessible to metroplex citizens and tourists.
The city is well known for City of Boerne v. Flores, which is a famous U.S. Supreme Court case. Boerne is also known for being home to the Guadalupe Valley Poetry Celebration. The proceeds from this regional poetry festival go toward the Boerne Public Library. Boerne boasts two of the seven show caves of Texas: Cascade Caverns and Cave Without a Name. Both of these caves actively grow limestone solution. Additionally, Boerne has a long history of superior high school athletic programs.
